The Engagement of Ian and Stacey
Into the Church of St. Anne’s Shandon on Friday July 2nd strolled a very nice couple from the Red Side of Manchester, Ian Hardingham and Stacey Crump. I spoke with them for a few minutes but never guessed what they were up to or rather what Ian was up to. When they left me they visited the church and it was then that Ian left Stacey’s side and came to me at the desk and in a hushed voice he told me and indeed showed me that he had a box in his pocket and was going to propose to Nurse Stacey at the top of the tower if given permission. This was granted lightening fast in case Stacey came out of the church and wondered what was happening.
Off up the tower they went and once more I was privy to a secret before “Bride”.
In my own mind I had decided to stop people going to the top of the tower for fifteen minutes. That was enough time for Ian to get down on his knees and pop the question to the nurse he has known for 9 and a half years, and people were very good when I told them the reason. Even though Ian works in the IT industry he still wanted to do the proposal in the old fashioned way.
When they returned to the desk they told me that they had seen Cork in many adverts on the TV and through word of mouth and that it had lived up to their expectations of it being a “Beautiful City.”
Obviously they had read our website and Ian was quite taken by the many stories we had there of engagements “happening” at the top of our tower.
For the both of them it was their first time in the “Real” capital of Ireland.
We now look forward to the wedding.
